Roof Styles
**Horizontal or Vertical roof: what's the difference?**
Both of our Legacy A-frame carports have the same peaked look from the road. The real difference is which way the metal panels run, and that changes how the roof holds up over time.
**A-Frame with horizontal panels:**
The ribs run front to back, the same direction as the peak. It's the lower-cost option and works well on shorter carports where weather isn't a big concern.
**Vertical roof with ridge cap:**
The ribs run from the edge straight up to the peak, with a ridge cap sealing the top. Rain, snow, and leaves slide right off instead of sitting in the grooves. There's also extra framing underneath (you can see it in the photo), which makes the roof stronger.
**Why it matters in Missouri:**
With our snow, ice, and spring storms, a vertical roof sheds water and snow better and is less likely to leak or collect debris. It's our recommendation for longer buildings, enclosed buildings, or anything you plan to keep for years.
The horizontal roof costs less up front, and the vertical roof gives you more protection over time.
