Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before you buy

Have a question that isn’t answered here? Give us a call at 816-577-1770 or stop by our lot on US-36 west of Cameron — we’re always happy to help.

🙩  Delivery & Setup

Q:  Where do you deliver?

A:  We deliver within 50 miles of any Backyard Portable Buildings dealer locations. That covers a large portion of Missouri and Kansas.

Q:  How long does delivery take after I order?

A:  It depends on whether you’re ordering a new custom build or purchasing a building we already have on the lot:

  • New custom build: Typically around 3 - 4 weeks from the time your order is placed.

  • Off-the-lot building: Usually 10 business days or less, depending on the driver’s schedule.

The driver will call you from a (417) area code to schedule the delivery.

Q:  What happens on delivery day?

A:  Before your building arrives, your site should be no more than 8-12 inches off level.  The driver will deliver your building and level it on-site using treated lumber shims and wedges — these are included at no extra charge. Most deliveries take less than an hour. Your building will be ready to use the same day it arrives.

Q:  Can my building be moved after it’s been delivered?

A:  Absolutely. Because our buildings are portable, they can be relocated whenever you need. Whether you’re moving to a new property or just rearranging your yard, our drivers can move any building we’ve delivered.

Q:  What if something is damaged during delivery?

A:  We stand behind every delivery. If any damage occurs during the delivery or setup process, we will send a repair crew out to fix it. Just contact us as soon as you notice the issue, and we’ll take care of it.

🏗️  Site Preparation

Q:  Does my site need to be perfectly level?

A:  Not at all — that’s what our drivers are for. Your site just needs to be within about 8–12 inches of level. Our driver will handle the leveling on delivery day using treated lumber shims and wedges at no extra charge.

Q:  What are my site preparation options?

A:  There are several great options depending on your budget and how long you plan to keep the building in place:

  • Bare ground — simplest and most affordable

  • Gravel pad — most popular; great drainage

  • Concrete blocks — good for uneven ground or added height

  • Concrete piers — best for cabins or flood zones

  • Concrete slab — most permanent option

  • Concrete footings — full-length support for larger buildings

Q:  Do I need a permit for my building?

A:  Permit requirements vary by city and county. We recommend contacting your local city administrator or zoning office before ordering to find out what’s required in your area. Because our portable buildings don’t have a permanent foundation, many areas don’t require a permit for smaller sizes — but it’s always best to check first.

🎨  Products & Customization

Q:  Can I customize the colors on my building?

A:  Yes! We offer a full range of Sherwin-Williams stock colors, which you can preview and select right in our 3D designer tool on the website. If you have a specific color in mind that isn’t in our standard palette, we can use a custom Sherwin-Williams color for a small upcharge — just give us the SW paint number, and we’ll take care of the rest.

Q:  Can I add windows or extra doors to my building?

A:  Yes. Most of our portable buildings can be customized with additional windows, different door sizes, and other options. Use the 3D designer to explore what’s available for each building style, or call us, and we’ll walk you through the options.

Q:  What sizes are available?

A:  Both Backyard Portable Buildings and Legacy Metal Buildings come in a wide range of sizes. Portable buildings range from small utility sheds all the way up to full cabin and tiny home sizes. Legacy carports and metal buildings can be custom-ordered in virtually any width and length. Give us a call or use the 3D designer to see the various styles, sizes, and prices.

Q:  What is the difference between the Side Lofted Barn and the Side Value Metal Shed?

A:  Great question — these are two very different buildings. The Side Lofted Barn is an Amish-built wood building with a full loft, two included windows (10' wide and larger), and a six-foot double door. It’s our most popular shed and has a much more finished, versatile feel. The Side Value Metal Shed is our most economical option — it’s a no-frills metal building with 6-foot double doors on the long side, a solid floor, and hoop trusses. Windows are optional on the metal shed. If budget is the top priority, the metal shed is the way to go. If you want more features and a building that works for storage, hobbies, or light living space, the Side Lofted Barn is the better choice.

💳  Pricing & Payment

Q:  Do you offer rent-to-own?

A:  Yes! Rent-to-own is available on all of our portable buildings and metal buildings. There is no credit check required — just easy monthly payments that fit your budget. It’s a great way to get the building you need today without a large upfront cost. Call us at 816-577-1770 to get started, and we’ll walk you through the details.

Q:  What payment methods do you accept?

A:  Cash, check, credit, or debit cards are accepted.

Q:  Are there any delivery fees?

A: Off-lot buildings have free delivery and set-up within 50 miles of our lot in Cameron.  New builds are available for free delivery within our delivery area.  Give us a call at 816-577-1770 for a delivery quote to your address.

ℹ️  General Questions

Q:  Where is your lot located?

A:  Our display lot is located at 5295 SE US-36, Cameron, MO — about 2 miles west of the I-35/US-36 interchange. We’re open Monday through Friday, 9am–3pm. If you need to stop by outside of those hours, give us a call at 816-577-1770 to schedule an appointment.

Q:  Can I see buildings in person before I buy?

A:  Absolutely — that’s what our lot is for. We keep a rotating selection of buildings on display so you can walk around them, open the doors, and get a real feel for the size and quality. We encourage every customer to stop by before they buy, especially for larger purchases like cabins.

Q:  Do you carry both wood and metal buildings?

A:  Yes. We are an authorized dealer for two quality manufacturers: Backyard Portable Buildings out of Eldorado Springs, Missouri, which offers Amish-built wood structures including sheds, lofted barns, and cabins; and Legacy Buildings out of Muskogee, Oklahoma, which offers heavy-duty metal carports, garages, and metal sheds. We can help you find the right building from either line depending on your needs and budget.
